Ames firefighters responded Saturday to a structure fire at 1402 Meadowlane Ave. At approximately 3 p.m., Ames firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames from the back side of the single-family dwelling.

Firefighters entered and located the fire in the rear of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished. There was heavy smoke and fire damage throughout the first floor and attic of the structure. Damage is estimated at $70,000. There were no injuries associated with the incident. No one was home at the time of the incident. Fire was called in by a passer-by.

The fire cause is under investigation currently. Fire crews reported that no smoke detectors were sounding upon their arrival.
