Ames firefighters responded Saturday evening to a structure fire at 4302 Harrison Circle. At approximately 10:50 p.m., Ames firefighters arrived on scene to heavy flames and smoke coming from the garage of the single-family home.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames enough to make entry and stop the fire from spreading throughout the whole house. The garage is a total loss, and the rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage. Damage is estimated at more than $150,000.

The occupants were home at the time of the fire and made it out safely. There were no injuries associated with the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not considered suspicious.

The Ames Fire Department reminds all residents to check smoke detectors monthly. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
