City of Ames Receives $1.6 Million for Parks

The late Geitel Winakor, a former University professor, left $1.6 million to the Susan Gwiasda, Ames public relations officer announced in a news release Monday.

Winakor died Aug. 15. She was 81. Her gift to the parks department came with no restrictions. Parks Director Nancy Carroll said in the news release that Winakor made contributions to the parks department throughout the past decade. Winakor a professor in the ISU Department of Textiles and Clothing retired in 1992. Read more about the gift here.
