READER'S THEATER: A Soldier's Life - 1861-65

Ames was founded in 1864. At the end of the Civil war, many veterans came to our town, including Captain Kendrick W. Brown and his new bride.

In 1915, fifty years after the end of the war, Brown published a series of newspaper articles about his war experiences. They came together in a book, published in 2004.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the war, six costumed readers from the Ames community will interpret twelve of "Cap" Brown's amazing accounts from his four years "at the front."

Brown's war memorabilia will be displayed; books will be available for purchase; hardtack, coffee and juice will be served.
