Where to Watch the Super Bowl or Just Eat in Ames

It's almost time for second Thanksgiving, better known as the Super Bowl.

Several locations in Ames will be celebrating the game and food including the which hosts an annual pot luck each year. 

Bartender Ben Tompkins, said about 30 to 40 people will show up with a dish in hand and as many as 100 people will fill the pool hall to eat and watch the game from one of a handful of HD televisions. 

Most of them will have their hands and mouths full.

Super Bowl Sunday is the second highest day of food consumption in the United States right after Thanksgiving, according to the USDA.

Roughly 20 percent of people are expected to attend a party and thousands will consume an estimated 1.25 billion chicken wings, the agency said.

Corner Pocket's party is open to any one 21 years old and over. The event begins at 2 p.m.

It's not chicken but rib meat that will be the special at , 4518 Mortensen Road, No. 108. On Super Bowl Sunday, rib rolls, hand made egg rolls stuffed with rib meat, and a pitcher of beer will go for $15 starting at 11 a.m. Just about all 20 of the pub's televisions will be tuned to the game.

, 114 S. Duff Ave., plans to host a customer appreciation party and Super Bowl Sunday viewers will be able to buy $1 Bud Lights and sample Bud Light Platinum in addition to the regular menu.

People can also watch the game from , 316 Main St., Managers there expect to run specials on their drink and appetizer menu. And it's happy hour all day on the Pub side.

Tracy Drury, manager of , 1404 S. Duff., usually expects a slow Super Bowl Sunday. So this year they've turned the day into Community Giveback Night. Anyone who comes in to dine or carries out can drop their check in a box in the lobby. If they do, 10 percent of the cost of their bill will be donated to the local elementary school of their choice.
