Former Governor Ray Announces Support for Romney Friday
Robert Ray served as the state's governor from 1969 to 1983, and is revered by many Iowans ,especially moderate Republicans.

Former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray announced his support for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney today, according to a news release.
Ray, who served as Iowa's governor from 1969 to 1983, said he wants the next president to be someone with respectable character and judgment.

“I believe Mitt Romney offers the personal qualities and vision to become a truly great president. Mitt has a strong record in business, including turning around the Winter Olympics, and leading the state of Massachusetts …,” Ray said in a prepared statement.
Romney said he was honored to have the former governor's support in the release.

“Not only was he a great governor, but he is also a tremendous leader with a long history serving both Iowa and the country,” Romney said.
Romney's other endorsements include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who plans to stump for Romney in Des Moines on Wednesday.
