Identity of Man Who Died During VEISHEA Expected to be Released Today

The reported fall from Chamberlain Lofts was the second death at the building.

 

The name of a 21-year-old Cedar Rapids man who died early Saturday while visiting Ames during VEISHEA weekend is expected to be released today.

The Ames Tribune reported that the man was from Cedar Rapids and police said his identity was being withheld until Monday.

Ames Police that the man accidentally fell from a fourth-story balcony at Chamberlain Lofts. Balconies are at either end of the residential floors in the Campustown building.

It was the second death at the building. In the summer of 2006, an Ames resident also fell to his death from the fourth-story balcony. The Iowa State Daily reported at the time that a Benjamin Peterson, 22, fell about 2 a.m. and died while being transported to a hospital. The story suggested that Peterson might have been sitting on the balcony's ledge before he fell.
