Last Chance: To Mail Your Taxes in Ames

You had a couple extra days to finish your taxes thanks the District of Columbia and the fact that April 15 falls on a Sunday this year. The IRS normally would extend the deadline to Monday.

But today is Emancipation Day, so the rest of the country gets an extra day to file its taxes as well.

The post offices in Ames will not be open late Tuesday. They stopped doing that five years ago, but they will give the April 17 post mark to ever piece of mail left at the post offices in town up until midnight Tuesday.
