UPDATE: Lincoln Way Closed Unexpectedly in Ames until 7 p.m. Thursday
CIty of Ames said Lincoln Way will be closed from State Street to Wilmoth Avenue so that repairs can be made to a fiber line.

Lincoln Way re-opened just after 7 p.m. Oct. 6, and all phone service was expected to be restored by Friday evening, Oct. 7.

Lincoln Way closed unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Thursday so that repairs could be made to communication infrastructure that knocked out phone service to a handful of schools in town, the City of Ames said in a press release Thursday.
Damage to a fiber wire affected emergency communications north of Story County and caused sporadic communication outages with Ames school facilities.

Lincoln Way will be closed from State Street to Wilmoth Avenue. Westbound vehicles will detour off Lincoln Way south on State Avenue to Mortensen Road to South Dakota Avenue. Eastbound vehicles are encouraged to use North Franklin Avenue to West Street to North Hyland Avenue, the release said.

Telephone service at Ames Middle School is only available using 515-268-2400, the district's website said.
