Snow Ball Drop, Theatrical Productions and Song Today

Holiday events are piling up, so here are few you might want to check out.

Today's holiday events include holiday sales, workshops, music, theater productions and more. If none of the events below put you in the holiday spirit well you're truly a Scrooge.

The Ames Main Street Cultural District will hold its annual Snow Ball Drop at 1 p.m. today in Tom Evans Plaza.Β Tom Drenthe, Main Street Cultural District event director, will throw 1,000 β€œsnow balls” from the back of a truck onto the park area. The snow balls are actually ping-pong balls marked with giveaways and prizes from downtown businesses.Β  is this year's sponsor.

presents β€œA Tuna Christmas,” a play about a holiday lawn decorating competition in a Texas town at 7:30 tonight. Advance tickets can be purchased by stopping by or calling (515) 232-2354. Some tickets will also be available at the door the day of the performance.

Iowa State University's Christmas tree and poinsettia sales take place today at . The tree sale will be held in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the poinsettia sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Reiman Gardens will also host another wreath-making session from 9 a.m. to noon today.

will host a Christmas cookie demonstration class with Margaret Welder at 10 a.m. No pre-registration is required, but there is a $5 fee.

The Central Iowa Symphony will play β€œSounds of the Season” 7:30 p.m. today in the , featuring Kevin Amidon on the violin. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors.

ISU Theatre presents β€œA Christmas Carol” at 7:30 p.m. at . Tickets are $8 to $16. The show runs through Dec. 11.
