Spring Styles for Your Long Locks

Even though the thermometer hasn’t fully committed to spring yet, the calendar has. It’s a great time to think about new ways to style your long locks for a different look this season.

The wave craze

Models showing up in this season’s fashion magazines and walking the spring/summer runways are sporting long waves. Whether you like soft waves or timeless glamour, show off a few looks with different degrees of curl.

  • Try relaxed mermaid waves. Think 80s throwback — Daryl Hannah in Splash.
  • Go for classic glamour. Towel-dry your hair, give it a quick blast with a blow dryer, and leave the rest to air dry in large Velcro rollers. The end result? Lots of volume with large, soft waves.
  • Try a deep right or left part, and curl your hair gently for side-swept, wavy length.

If straight is your style

Straighten long hair, try a product like Moroccan oil for extra shine, and add a center part for a clean runway look.

What says summer like an up-do?

When the temperature rises, beat the heat by getting the long hair off your neck.

  • Be creative with braids. Try a braided up-do, a side-swept, flyaway braid, or a neat, tight side braid over one shoulder.
  • Wear a slick, low ponytail. Blow-dry your hair straight or use a straight iron, smooth down any flyways, and pull it back into a low ponytail that says summer chic.
  • Bring on the bun. Wear a slick, high bun, or try a variation — a deep left part with a slicked-back bun. Create a more romantic look with a soft, low bun at the nape of your neck or a soft, relaxed up-do leaving a few loose strands to frame your face.

 Can’t decide? Compromise.

  • Twist or braid the sides of your long hair, and pin it back. Add creative hair accessories, or leave a few loose strands that frame your face.
  • Opt for artsy. Pull away long hair from your face with a scarf. Tie it at the nape of your neck, and let the ends of the scarf hang loose — a perfect look for spring or summer music and art festivals.
  • Wear a headband with a center-parted, low ponytail for a tailored look that keeps hair off your face and lets you feel the breeze.

Show off long locks with color

Love your long hair but feeling bored? Freshen up your color or try something new for spring. Let a professional add highlights, or try an all-over color a few shades lighter. Talk with your stylist about what will work best with your skin tone, your current hair color, and the time you have to maintain it.

Most of all have fun. There are plenty of warm-weather days ahead to try these different looks and more.
