CREDO's Take Down King HQ Opens Saturday

CREDO SuperPAC, of more than 2.5 million members who stand for issues ranging from defending choice to protecting net neutrality, will open its Ames office Saturday with the aim to unseat Iowa Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron.

The family style event starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at 217 Duff Ave.

King is on CREDO's “Take Down the Tea Party Ten” list an effort to unseat Congressmen of the Tea Party who they say “want to redefine rape, gut the clean air act, let women die and abolish Medicare.”

The Iowa congressman serves the 5^th District, but is running for the newly drawn 4^th district. He will face Ames Democrat Christie Vilsack, in November.

“We're focusing on King” said CREDO SuperPAC district director Alec Johnson. He said he had no comment on Vilsack.

CREDO came to Ames he said because Johnson said it's a major county in the district which King never represented before so it made a lot of sense. They hope to mobilize the electorate so that they understand that King is a Tea Party extremist.

“He is almost stone age in terms of his views on women,” Johnson said.

A release about the grand opening said that King made the news for stating he hadn't received any corporate contributions in his campaign.

But the contributions listed here suggest otherwise. Donors include Exxon Mobile, Walmart, Koch Industries and more.

Rather than spending millions of dollars on television advertising the CREDO plans a grass roots campaign and partnerships with local constituencies to “spread the message about the radical, anti-woman policies championed by Rep. King,” a release stated.

Johnson said Saturday's event will be a potluck family style event. He invited Ames residents to bring dishes and snacks.
