Two Ames Police Officers Promoted to New Posts

Jason Tuttle and Dan Walter have a combined 22 years experience with the Ames Police Department.

From an Ames Police Department media release:

The Ames Police Department is pleased to announce the recent promotion of two police officers. Jason Tuttle was promoted to Police Commander, replacing former Police Commander Jim Robinson who retired April 1. Dan Walter was promoted to Police Lieutenant, filling the vacancy left by Tuttle.

Tuttle has been with the Ames Police Department since May of 2000, was promoted to Police Sergeant in 2006 and Police Lieutenant in 2008. The Ames Police Department has two Commanders who may serve as Acting Police Chief when assigned. Police Commanders lead and supervise the police patrol and investigation divisions. Among other duties, they provide leadership in strategic planning, quality assurance, quantitative analysis, decision making, and departmental research and evaluation activities.

Walter joined the Ames Police Department in 2004 and was promoted to Police Sergeant in 2009.  A Police Lieutenant is the commanding officer for a unit or shift. Among other duties, the Lieutenant is responsible for the direction, coordination, and supervision of unit activities and personnel.

“We are very excited to announce these promotions,” said Police Chief Chuck Cychosz. “The Ames Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of our residents through public safety. Our newly promoted officers have shown their commitment to serving this community and exemplify the values of our department.”
