Upgrades to Iowa State President's Home Includes $90,000 Carpet

Iowa Board of Regents approved making $375,000 in renovations to the president's home in Ames using donated funds.

While President finalists and visit the campus through Saturday, tour guides can promise them that the Knoll house, possibly their new home for the next 10 years, would look a lot better when they return as president.

The Iowa Board of Regents approved spending $375,000 in donor funds on renovations for the 110-year-old campus home, an Iowa State Daily report said.

The worn carpet on the ground floor would be replaced with a $90,000 dense wool carpet, the Des Moines Register reported.

Other improvements include renovations to the bathrooms, new paint, carpet cleanings and new window treatments. Iowa State University Foundation's unrestricted gift funds would pay for the improvements.

No work has been done to the home's original 1901 structure in 30 years and about 200,000 people have walked on the ground floor carpet in the last 20 years, according to the Board of Regents Agenda. Renovation design costs are estimated at $36,000 and materials will cost about $322,000, agenda documents said.
