Ten Years After 9/11: Ankeny Fire Department Remembers
The Ankeny Fire Department held a ceremony Sunday to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
As the bells rang on a bright Sunday morning, Ankeny residents gathered at the fire station bowed their heads.
Mark Amann, firefighter/paramedic and a retired Marine, rang the station bell.
The ceremony, known as the Tolling of the Bells is a longstanding practice that lets firefighters know one of their own has been killed in the line of duty.
