'Adam's Eve' Opens February 13

Ankeny Community Theatre presents Matthew Carlin's 'Adam's Eve' February 13 - March 1.

What would you do if you opened your closet door and out popped a woman who claimed to be your soul mate? When it happens to Adam, he assumes Eve is part of a prank thought up by his friend, Mark. Mark denies all knowledge of Eve, and Eve continues to insist she’s been sent by God to help Adam change the world.

“Adam’s Eve”, written by Matthew Carlin, opens at Ankeny Community Theatre on Friday February 13. A comedy, “Adam’s Eve” is a story that provides much more than comedic relief. It is also a story that provides a humanitarian message of the why and what of God’s plan.

Mark Tuttle makes his Ankeny Community Theatre directorial debut with this show. Tuttle, who is the pastor of Crossroads Church in Ankeny, teaches Ethics and World Religion as a professor at DMACC, which is what drew him to direct the show. “It plays well to my profession. It’s a comedy and a thinker and it has some new and old romances that will touch just about everybody,” Tuttle said.

Alexis Beyer is no stranger to the theater. However, she is new to Ankeny Community Theatre. Speaking of rehearsals and the cast, Beyer states “Rehearsals have been nothing short of a riot of laughter. Everyone meshes so well. We have great chemistry working together that every night has been an absolute delight.”

Beyer describes her character, Eve, as “A very happy and bubbly woman who is eager to discover and try new things. And, since she is a ‘newborn’, practically everything she encounters is new to her.” Beyer says “I realized that it was more than just a funny tale. It’s an uplifting story with a great message and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.” Beyer goes on to say “This performance isn’t just about people on stage having fun, even though we enjoy every minute of it. We are also here to portray the message that the author wanted to share with others. I hope those that come to see the play leave with a renewed childlike faith in the miracles of God.”

Tuttle echoes Beyer’s remarks as to what he would like the audience to take away from the performance. He says “I hope you laugh and chuckle through the show, and then at home, remember the highlights and have another laugh at the story and the characters. And, maybe we find we laugh at ourselves when we think about the impossibilities that can become our possibilities. I hope we see the good and bad in humanity and we try to better ourselves.”

“Adam’s Eve” will run at Ankeny Community Theatre from February 13 to March 1. Friday and Saturday show times are 7:30pm with Sunday matinees’ at 2:00pm. Reservations may be made at ankenycommunitytheatre.com
