After Winning State Title, Ankeny Girls Soccer Team Could Finish Season with High National Ranking

The Hawkettes nabbed their second state title in three years Saturday.

On Saturday, the undefeated Ankeny Hawkettes soccer team walked away from Cownie Soccer Complex with its second Class 3A state title in three years.

Now, they could be looking at no. 3 national ranking after defeating Dowling Catholic, 4-0, the Des Moines Register reports.

Green Hope High School in Cary, N.C., spent the entire spring season ranked No. 1 by Elite Soccer Report, the article said.

The Register reported that the Hawkettes were ranked as high as No. 2 before last week, when Naperville (Ill.) North moved up from the No. 3 spot. Naperville North (22-0-2) had better results against common opponents with Ankeny and captured its second straight state title, ending the season with a spring-best 36-match undefeated streak.
