1. State News: Airport Access, Housing Tax Credits, Math Stars and More (westerniowatoday.com) — Ankeny voters have approved a one-percent local option sales tax, raising the city's rate to seven percent starting January 1 and generating an estimated $12 million annually. City leaders say the money will be split between property tax relief and capital projects, including streets, parks, trails, and public safety improvements that residents will notice over time.
2. Ankeny special election passes new 1% local option sales tax (bluewaterhealthyliving.com) — Ankeny residents have approved a 1% local option sales tax, raising the rate to 7% starting January 1, 2027, and ending Ankeny's status as Polk County's lone holdout. The city expects over $12 million annually, split between property tax relief and capital projects like streets, parks, trails, facilities, and public safety, with a projected 6% drop in the property tax rate.
3. Central Iowa events commemorating 25th anniversary of 9/11 (weareiowa.com) — Ankeny residents can attend a 9 a.m. 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the museum atrium inside Fire Station 1, featuring an honor guard, prayer, remarks, bells, and bagpipes. Other central Iowa communities, from Waukee to Ames and Oskaloosa, are also holding walks, flag displays, and ceremonies to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
4. ICGA holds summit in Ankeny (pencitycurrent.com) — Ankeny just hosted the Iowa Corn Growers Association's Annual Grassroots Policy Summit at the FFA Enrichment Center, drawing more than 130 farmer delegates from across Iowa. Attendees debated priorities like conservation funding, ethanol tax credits, carbon capture, property tax reform, and federal farm policy, with final state and federal policy positions to be set and shared later this year.
