Today's riddle: What is the difference between black eyed peas and chick peas? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Iowa Corn Growers discuss policy priorities at annual summit (kmzu.com) — Ankeny just hosted more than 130 Iowa corn farmers for the Iowa Corn Growers Association's annual policy summit, where delegates debated conservation funding, ethanol tax credits, carbon capture and property tax reform. Their decisions will shape the group's final state and federal priorities, expected in December, influencing everything from local landowner rights to transportation infrastructure funding that affects area grain movement.
2. Radio Iowa HS Football Polls Week of Sept. 14, 2026…Clear Lake Slips, St. Ansgar Moves Up (kchanews.com) — Ankeny's football team is ranked fifth in Class 5A and set to host eighth-ranked crosstown rival Ankeny Centennial in a marquee matchup. The latest Radio Iowa polls show several central Iowa programs climbing or holding strong, giving local fans plenty to watch as the season heats up this week.
3. Two Chinese Nationals Plead Guilty to Money Laundering Conspiracy Spanning 10 States (iheart.com) — A nationwide used-cooking-oil theft and money laundering scheme reached right into Ankeny, where federal prosecutors say stolen oil was funneled through local warehouse facilities. Two New York men have now pleaded guilty, while 17 other defendants await trial, underscoring how even distant criminal operations can quietly touch central Iowa businesses and supply chains.
4. Diesel Prices Surge as Harvest Fuel Costs Climb (rfdtv.com subscription) — From Ankeny, farm analysts are warning that diesel prices near $6 a gallon are squeezing harvest budgets for Iowa producers, including those hauling grain through our area. Higher fuel and transportation surcharges are often passed back to farmers through weaker basis and lower prices, eroding some of the gains from stronger commodity markets this fall.
5. Perry Police find dead infant inside daycare center trash bag (who13.com) — An infant was found deceased in a trash bag at a Perry daycare, and the body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's office in Ankeny for autopsy. Investigators say the baby was not a daycare client and believe there is no ongoing threat to the community, but they are still working to determine what happened.
