Ankeny Blast Ball and Tee Ball Sessions Start in May

The Ankeny Parks & Recreation Department is offering two opportunities for young children to learn the basics of baseball and softball. Boys and girls four years of age are eligible to play in Blast Ball. The Tee Ball program is designed for children five years old through 1st grade. Participants must be of the required age before the program begins.

Blast Ball is an introductory program, primarily geared towards learning the offensive part of the game. Four to six players will be placed on each team. Gloves are not required. Teams will meet for one hour each Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. beginning May 4 through June 15. No games on May 25.

Tee Ball will also run from May 4 through June 15. No games on May 25. Tee Ball is designed for children five years old through first grade. Tee Ball will teach participants the skills needed for regular team baseball and softball play. This program is sponsored by Strawberry Patch.

Both programs will be at Hawkeye Park, located at 400 NW Lakeshore Drive. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. The programs are six weeks long and each session includes 15 minutes of skill-building and 45 minutes for a scrimmage. Volunteer coaches are needed for both of these programs.

To register for either of these programs, stop by the Parks & Recreation Office at 210 South Ankeny Blvd or register online at www.ankenyiowa.gov. Registration deadline is April 11.
