Ankeny National Honor Society Inducts 80

News release:

On April 30 Ankeny High School inducted 80 students in to National Honor Society (NHS) at a ceremony at which Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was the keynote speaker.

"Through my service to Iowans, I've learned that true leadership is about what you can do to help other people," Governor Branstad told the inductees. "Leadership, at its core, is a chance to make a difference in improving the lives of other people.  I hope that every one of you that we honor here tonight, as well as your families, teachers and others in the community will continue to work together to demonstrate the important qualities of leadership and make a difference."

As part of the induction ceremony, 2012-2013 NHS officers Connor Schaeffer, Aubree Larson, Matthew McGill, Mary Brandt and Austin Heinzerling also spoke about leadership, knowledge, service, scholarship and character.

Students apply for membership in NHS, and are evaluated on their extracurricular involvement, community service, scholarship, and an essay.
