Ankeny Show Choirs Place at Johnston Showzam Invitational

The Johnston "Showzam" show choir competition has long been the battle ground for some of the best show choirs in the metro area.  Ankeny musicians and singers spent January 19 competing in front of a large audience and eight judges at Johnston High School.

Intensity, Ankeny's Women's Group, directed by Lisa Kelsey, competed early in the day and won first place in the Women's division.   "The young woman in Intensity take great pride in their performances and work to improve it every week," said Kelsey.  "It’s a joy to work with these girls."

Prep group, Perpetual Motion, also directed by Kelsey, took the stage just before noon.  They placed first in their division.  This is the second year in a row Perpetual Motion won first place at the Johnston competition.   "They have worked very hard and it shows," said Kelsey.

Varsity group, Visual Adrenaline, directed by Lester Miller, III, placed second during the day-time round.  At 10:30pm, they took the stage again as the last competing performance in the final round and received best choreography and first runner-up.  "I'm proud of their performance," said, Miller.  "This group has become known for their difficult and well-executed choreography."

All three choirs will compete again this Saturday, February 9 at Urbandale and again February 23 at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.  Visual Adrenaline will also be competing at the national competition "Fame" in Orlando this March.
