Ankeny Assistant City Manager Taking New Job in Waukee

Waukee Mayor Bill Peard and the Waukee City Council have selected Tim Moerman of Ankeny as the next Waukee city administrator, according to a news release.

Moerman currently is one of two assistant city managers for the city of Ankeny.

The city has been operating with Brad Deets acting as interim city administrator while undergoing a national search for the person that will help lead Waukee into the future. Leaders said in their release that the new administrator will work to continue commercial and residential growth and the construction and development of the Alice’s Road Corridor.

Previous Waukee city administrator Jeff Kooistra resigned in May 2012.

Moerman’s contract will pay him a prorated, annual base salary of $132,000 through the rest of the city’s fiscal year, the Des Moines Register reports. His base salary will be $134,000 for the fiscal year that begins July 1. In addition, the city will provide Moerman with a car allowance of $400 per month.

Moerman is heading to Waukee with more than 25 years of professional local government experience with emphasis in city management and economic development, according to a news release. Moerman has served in several communities throughout Iowa including Jefferson, Sibley, Dubuque, Mason City, and most recently, the city of Ankeny, where he oversaw special projects and economic development.

He received his undergraduate degrees in business administration and accounting from Dordt College and later a master’s degree in public administration from Iowa State University.

Moerman's work on economic development projects includesriverfront development in Dubuque, downtown redevelopment in Mason City and high-end business park developments in Ankeny, officials said. Additionally, he has been in the forefront of these projects as a skilled negotiator and representative of the public interest in public-private partnerships. His role in these and several other projects made Moerman a clear front runner in the Waukee search.

Moerman is expected to begin his rol as Waukee city administrator on Feb. 18, the release said. Waukee’s mayor, council, and city staff are excited for new leadership and look forward to working with Moerman on numerous community projects including the Alice’s Road Corridor and further development of the Waukee Parks system, as well as carrying out the goals of the comprehensive plan and various master plans that have been adopted by the city over the last several years.
