Ankeny Bowlers Knock Off Undefeated Des Moines Lincoln
The Ankeny High School bowling teams set two records during competition last week.

The Ankeny High School bowling teams set two school record last week, according to the Des Moines Register.
The Hawks took down undefeated Des Moines Lincoln, the defending Class 2-A state runner-up, by a score of 3,147 to 3,022.
“It was an unbelievable night,” Ankeny coach Mike Mullins told the newspaper. “The boys were on fire.”

The Hawks' record improved to 5-4 by posting five scores in the 400s. Garrett Schaeffer was Ankeny’s top scorer for the third time this year, bowling games of 225 and 245 for a career-high series of 470.

Nate Anderson (433), Nolan Baskins (412) and Jake Kendig (394) also had career-highs, while Andy Wittick bowled a season-high series of 457. Ian Baskins added a 423 total.
The Ankeny girls’ team lost to Lincoln by a score of 2,657 to 2,555, dropping to 6-3 on the season.
Brianna Payton was Ankeny’s top scorer for the fifth time this season. She bowled a 212 in her opening game en route to a season-high series of 399.
Jen Christianson had a 223 in her first game and finished with a 377 total. Kaylinn Willson followed with a 333, Katie Heileman had a 327, and Cassie Runyon added a 300.
Ankeny sweeps Valley
Both Ankeny teams defeated Valley on Thursday at Plaza Lanes, where the Hawks surpassed the 3,000-pin mark for the first time in school history, the newspaper.
The Ankeny boys won by a score of 3,110 to 3,012.
The Hawkettes also won by a score of 2,512 to 2,272. Willson led the way with a 391 series, including a 223 in her first game.
The Ankeny teams will compete in the Marshalltown regional meet Feb. 14 at Totem Bowl.
Ankeny and the host Bobcats will be joined in the five-team field by Mason City, Southeast Polk and Urbandale.
This week's schedule
Both Ankeny teams travel to Waukee today for a dual meet against the Warriors at Warrior Lanes.
The Ankeny squads will then face Urbandale in another dual meet on Thursday at Merle Hay Lanes, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
