Ankeny City Council Begins Talk of Hiring a New City Manager
Ankeny council members set a goal at a planning session last night, but it could be a year before anyone is hired.

The Ankeny City Council would like to have a new city manager hired by September 2013, but are waiting to start the search process until the budget season ends in March.
According to an article written by Sara Sleyster of the Des Moines Register, the consensus among council members at a planning session Monday night was to wait until next spring. The council also will have to decide if they want to hire a search firm to help with the process, the article said.
In May, to serve as interim city manager following the retirement of long-time city manager Carl Metzger.

Metzgerβs last day with the city was June 30. after serving more than 27 years with the city of Ankeny.
Spradling's appointment carried a two-year contract, which provides Spadling an additional $2,000 in monthly compensation until a permanent city manager is hired. Once that happens, Spradling will remain assistant city manager.
