Ankeny City Council Seeks Public Input on Mayoral Candidates

Ankeny residents can still put in their two cents about whom they feel is best suited to be the city's next mayor.

During Monday's city council meeting, members decided to hold off on indicating a favorite candidate, saying they needed more time to review the applications. Councilman Dave Kissinger also said that he wanted to make sure Ankeny’s citizens were kept in the loop, asking city staff to make sure information about each candidate is available to the public.

With help from the city, that's where Ankeny Patch comes in.

Attached to this article are the resumés and letters of interest from the eight candidates who applied to fill the mayor position, which will be officially vacated Friday by outgoing Mayor Steven Van Oort.

The candidates are Andrew Boscaljon, Dennis Richard Ellars, Peter Hong, Gary Lorenz, Chuck Scott, Michael Sibert, James Stordahl and Jeff Wright.

“I think it is fantastic that eight citizens have expressed a desire to serve our community,” said Councilmember Bobbi Bentz in a news release issued by the city. “I look forward to hearing from citizens about the prospective candidates as this process moves forward.”

The city council will consider the mayoral appointment at a special council meeting Dec. 10. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
