Ankeny Dunkin' Donuts Donates to Miracle Park Project

The new business held an open house last week, at which patrons were encouraged to donate to the project.

From a media release:

On July 19, Dunkin' Donuts held a check presentation and donated $1,000 tothe Ankeny Miracle Park/Miracle League Field and All-Inclusive Playground project.

In addition to the store's donation, Ankeny Miracle Park steering committee members collected $645 from patrons.  For a cash donation, patrons received a Dunkin' Donuts travel mug with coupon for a medium hot coffee.

The Ankeny Miracle Park is under construction in the northeast corner of Hawkeye Park, adjacent to Terrace Elementary and west of Hy-Vee.  Funds raised to date include cash on hand of over $740,000, with cash plus pledges coming in over two to three years totaling over $1,164,000 -- just $35,000 or so shy of the original $1.2 million fundraising goal.

By fall, both the Miracle League field and the concession/restroom building are expected to be completed; fundraising continues to have enough cash on hand to proceed with the all-inclusive playground.  The first Miracle League season, enabling children with special needs to play organized baseball, may occur as early as September.

Ankeny Miracle Park is a partnership between the City of Ankeny, the Ankeny Kiwanis Club, and the Ankeny Miracle Park Steering Committee.  To donate, go to www.ankenymiracleleague.com or make checks payable to the Ankeny Community Foundation mailed to Ankeny Parks and Recreation, 210 S. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, IA 50021.
