Ankeny Group Now Offering Emergency Response Training

The Ankeny CERT Team is hosting a free CERT training course beginning next month.

The training provides participants with basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills to help reduce loss and protect life and property until emergency responders can arrive.

"The program is a great way for neighbors to join together and learn how to prepare for and take care of themselves, their families, loved ones and neighbors when a disaster does happen," said ACERT Coordinator Forrest McGuire.

During the CERT course, students will receive training in emergency preparedness, fire suppression, medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, team organization and terrorism. Upon full course completion students will receive a Certificate of Completion.

The training will take place on April 11 and 12 from 6 to 10 p.m., and April 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Ankeny Fire Headquarters, 120 NW Ash Drive in Ankeny. Cerro Gordo County Emergency Manager Steve O'Neil will guide students through the training.
