Ankeny, Hawaii?

Ankeny, Iowa residents got a taste of Hawaii at Vintage Hills at Prairie Trail when the retirement community hosted a Luau.

It might be early for spring break, but anytime is a good time for a taste of Hawaii, which is exactly what Vintage Hills of Ankeny did with recent Hawaiian luau.

Residents had a taste of the islands with pulled pork sliders topped with pineapple salsa, grilled Hawaiian chicken and pineapple, fruits dipped in chocolate, and fruity punch with a pineapple side. Russ Barlow provided a mix of Hawaiian and big band music, and everyone wore lei.

“We enjoyed the flavors and sounds of Hawaii without the long flights,” said Kristen Canham, Executive Director at Vintage Hills at Prairie Trail, “it was a blast.”
