Ankeny Hawkettes Headed to State Softball Tournament
Victory over Ames propels girls to the state championships.

After Wednesday night's exciting victory over Ames, the Ankeny High School girls softball team is headed to the state tournament in Fort Dodge beginning on Tuesday.
Ankeny's Erica Kirgan hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the team to the state tournament.
The Hawkettes (33-7) will play No. 1 seeded Bettendorf (42-0) on Tuesday, July 19 at 1 p.m. on Diamond 1 at Harland Rogers Sports Complex at 1628 Nelson Ave., Fort Dodge.
State tournament t-shirts will be available in the Activities Office of Northview Middle School (formerly Ankeny High School) at 1302 N. Ankeny Blvd. beginning the afternoon of Friday, July 15, or at all boys home baseball games. Boys baseball hosts Hoover on Friday, July 15, in the first round of sub-state at 7 p.m.
