Ankeny Hawks Dealt Their First Loss, Courtesy of Dowling

The Maroons defeated Ankeny, 28-16, at Drake Stadium tonight.

Dowling Catholic knew what they wanted coming on to Drake Stadium field Friday night.

The Maroons, celebrating their homecoming this week, dealt the fourth-ranked Ankeny Hawks their first loss, 28-16. The Hawks now move to 6-1 in this season's action.

Alex Heckman of Dowling returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown to clinch the win, reported the Des Moines Register. The team limited the Hawks to 58 yards on the ground.

It could be an interesting night tonight under the lights of Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The game is pegged one to watch in the Des Moines area, the fourth-ranked Ankeny Hawks will travel to Drake tonight to take on Dowling Catholic (4-2). Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

In the matchup, Ankeny will again test its defense, which has allowed only 10 points per game this season.

Tonight is homecoming for Dowling. The Maroons are still recovering from last week’s loss against Southeast Polk in which the team also lost star receiver Amara Darboh to a shoulder injury.
