Ankeny High School Show Choirs Place at Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational
Show choirs Visual Adrenaline and Perpetual Motion both placed in their respective categories. The competition included a total of 19 show choirs.

On Saturday, Ankeny High School show choirs earned several awards at their first competition of the 2013 season.
The choirs kicked off the season at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, as the all girl group Intensity, junior varsity group Perpetual Motion and varsity group Visual Adrenaline performed at the Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational.

Perpetual Motion, directed by Lisa Kelsey, won first place in the prep division for the second year in a row. Visual Adrenaline, directed by Lester Miller III, won Best Band, Best Choreography and second place over-all.
“It’s a good start to the season but we have a lot more work and competition ahead of us,” said Miller, who is the director of choral activities.
The competition included a total of 19 choirs from three states, including South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. The event consisted of a full day, with choirs rehearsing and performing from early in the morning to late in the evening.

This was the first competition of the season for the AHS choirs. All three Ankeny choirs – Intensity, Perpetual Motion and Visual Adrenaline - will next compete will compete again next Saturday, Jan. 19 at Johnston High School, followed by contests on Feb. 9 at Urbandale and on Feb. 23 at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
Visual Adrenaline will also be competing at the Fame National Show Choir Championship Series in Orlando this March. To help with travel expenses Visual Adrenaline will be holding a garage sale and bake sale January 26, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Church of Christ, 310 N.W. Ash St.
It's been a great start to what is sure to be an outstanding show choir season, so mark your calendars now for the Spring Show Choir Spectacular:
- Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
- Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m.
