Ankeny High School Show Choirs Sweep Cedar Rapids Kennedy Competition

Ankeny Show Choirs swept the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Raise the Roof show choir competition held on Saturday, February 23.  In the last competition of the season, junior varsity group Perpetual Motion took first place in the prep division and varsity group Visual Adrenaline won first place in the open division.  These were just a few of the many awards these choirs received.

In addition to first place in the Prep Division, Perpetual Motion, directed by Lisa Kelsey, won Outstanding Vocals, Outstanding Choreography and tied for Best Band.  Nick Keech won Best Male Solo for his part in "Cry Me a River." Perpetual Motion's strong performance allowed them to advance to the finals to compete with Visual Adrenaline and four other varsity show choirs.

Varsity group, Visual Adrenaline, directed by Lester Miller III, won Best Costuming, Best Band and Best Ballad.  Guitar player, Luke Sanders won Outstanding Instrumentalist for his part in the Visual Adrenaline band. 

Perpetual Motion took the stage at 8:30 p.m. to kick-off the finals competition.  Despite not taking the stage until 11:00 p.m., Visual Adrenaline gave an energy filled performance.  For their abundant energy and great sound, the judges awarded Visual Adrenaline Best Choreography, Best Vocals and Grand Champion.  Cedar Rapids Xavier was 1st runner-up, Cedar Rapids Prairie 2nd runner-up, Muscatine 3rd runner-up, Cedar Rapids Washington 4th runner-up and Perpetual Motion 5th runner-up. 

Ankeny's All-Woman's Group, Intensity, received Outstanding Participation and played a strong supporting role for both Perpetual Motion and Visual Adrenaline.

• Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 PM
• Sunday, March 3 at 2:00 PM

Tickets are available online at ankenychoirs.com.  Everyone is encouraged to buy tickets online in advance of the show. Remaining seats will be sold at the door 45 minutes before each show.  Ticket prices are $10.
