Ankeny High School Student Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent
Twenty-four students participated in a ceremony Wednesday for National Letter of Intent Signing Day.
Ankeny High School student athletes were honored Wednesday at a special ceremony, held in conjunction with National Letter of Intent Signing Day.
Twenty-four students were at the special event, held in the high school auditorium, to recognize where the students were offered collegiate athletic scholarships or preferred walk-on status. They were joined by family, friends, teachers and administrators.
“I am so proud to be part of a school system with the quantity and quality of student athletes who represent their school with such honor and integrity,” Kevin Biggs, director of activities and athletics for the school district, said in a news release issued by the district. “Today we honor the years of hard work and dedication you have put in to make it to this day.”
Students were introduced by Biggs, and prior to the official signing, each one spoke about their time at Ankeny High School, thanking parents, coaches, teachers and administrators.
"Listening to these students speak really calls to attention to the fact that they are not only great athletes, but they are outstanding people as well," AHS Principal Jeff Hawkins said. "We are very proud of their accomplishments."
