From an Ankeny school district news release:
Ankeny students, parents, teachers and administrators joined together March 26 in the Ankeny High School gymnasium to recognized student achievement at the annual Academic Excellence Celebration.
Students were addressed by keynote speaker Jodi Whitworth, a 2009 AHS graduate and current WHO-TV journalist. Whitworth ran track in both high school and college, and was Ankeny High School’s 2008 homecoming queen prior to attending college at Northwestern University. She encouraged students to not only set high standards, but to continue to believe in their potential even when their efforts may not be perfect.

- The High Five Award, for students who raised their un-weighted semester GPA at least 0.5 points from Spring semester of 2011‐2012 to Fall semester of 2012‐2013
"We are proud of the perseverance and dedication to excellence the students honored at this ceremony put into earning these awards and academic accomplishments," said AHS Principal Jeff Hawkins.
