A third member of the Ankeny boys’ basketball team will continue his career at the Division II level, writes Dan Holm of the Des Moines Register. Connor Schabel, a 6-foot-4 senior forward/guard, will play for Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

Officials held a ribbon cutting Wednesday for a new $5 million expansion at Accumold, an expansion that added 43 jobs in Ankeny, reports KCCI Channel 8.

At the Ironman Florida event Saturday in Panama City Beach, Fla., Ankeny native Mackenzie Madison finished second overall in a new personal-best time of 9 hours, 10 minutes, 21 seconds, writes Lance Bergeson of the Des Moines Register. She beat her previous best Ironman performance of third at Ironman Canada last year.

Ankeny High School senior midfielder Maggie Riley, who helped the Hawkettes to their first state championship in June, has verbally committed to play for Northern Iowa, reports Dan Holm of the Des Moines Register. She will join the Panthers’ squad in the fall of 2012.

Dennis Albaugh of Ankeny, who started a business in the basement of his home in 1979 and built it into a worldwide agricultural chemical business, is among five individuals who will be inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame, reports the Des Moines Register. This year’s inductees will be honored at a black-tie dinner on Dec. 8.
