Ankeny Kiwanis Food Collection a Success -- Thanks To HyVee and Patrons!

Ankeny Kiwanis Club and the Kiwanis-sponsored Ankeny Key Club high school service group wish to thank Store Director Wes Snook, Ankeny Hy-Vee on North Ankeny Boulevard, and H-Vee patrons for their generous support of a recent 'Sack Sunday' food collection.
Held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the food collection benefitted the Des Moines Area Religious Council's Food Pantry Network/Emergency Food Pantry, which is one of the two main suppliers of the Ankeny Food Pantry with Red Rock Area Community Action Program (RRACAP) located in the Neveln Resource Center.
Kiwanians and Key Club members stood at the Hy-Vee store entrances next to DMARC Red Barrels and handed out the Food Pantry Network's 'Wish List' of food items most needed.  Patrons were invited to purchase an additional item from off the list while shopping and to donate the item on their way out of the store.  In addition, cash donations and donations of pre-packaged sacks of food available inside the store were accepted.
"For several years, Ankeny Kiwanis and Key Club have held Sack Sunday collections on the Sunday before Thanksgiving," explained Kiwanis Club president Todd Ashby.  "Our goal is to help the DMARC Food Pantry Network prepare for Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season, a particularly high-need period of time."
This year's collection brought in large numbers: a total of 813 food items and $472.80.  "Ankeny Hy-Vee patrons are always generous," said Ashby.
