UPDATE: Current Condition of Ankeny Stabbing Victim Unknown

Michael Stewart, 26, is in jail after he allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend multiple times. The victim, Nicole Ague, underwent surgery Saturday for her wounds, including one to the neck.

No new information was released Monday regarding the condition of an Ankeny mother who was stabbed in her home over the weekend.

Nicole Ague, 26, was last listed in critical condition Saturday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Ague's family has requested her condition not be released to the public, hospital officials said.

Ankeny police said Ague was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Michael Stewart, 26, who allegedly stabbed her multiple times, including once in the neck. The incident occurred while their three children — ages 7, 4 and 3 — were home. The couple's oldest daughter ran to a neighbor's home after the attack and asked the neighbor to cal 911, authorities said.

Ankeny police also had no new information Monday regarding Ague's condition, said Capt. Joe Schaffer of the Ankeny Police Department.

Stewart is being held in the Polk County Jail on charges of attempted murder and domestic assault with a deadly weapon.

According to Iowa court records, Ague filed for a restraining order against Stewart in January 2005, although she requested its dismissal in May 2005.

An Ankeny man is being held on charges including attempted murder, police said in a news release, for allegedly stabbing the mother of his three children Saturday morning.

Michael Stewart, 26, was arrested after police spotted his vehicle in the 5600 block of Northeast 14th Street. Officers were headed to the home of his former girlfriend, Nicole Ague, at 405 S.W. State St., said a press release from the . Police were responding to that address after they received a call of a woman who was stabbed in the neck.

According to the release, Ague, 26, was taken to Mercy Medical Center with multiple stab wounds, including one to the neck. Ague underwent surgery Saturday, the release said.

Hospital officials said she is listed in critical condition. 

Stewart confronted Ague at her residence Saturday morning, the release said. Ague was heard pleading for Stewart to “drop the knife” when he emerged from a room in the house and fled.

Stewart had lived with the victim at the State Street address until a few weeks ago. He and the victim's three young children were inside the home when the attack happened, authorities said in the release.

The children — ages 7, 4 and 3 — found Ague with multiple stab wounds. The oldest child ran to a neighbor, who called the police, the release said.

When Stewart’s vehicle was stopped by police, he allegedly got out and charged the Ankeny police officer and Polk County deputy who stopped him.

Stewart was subdued with the use of an electronic control weapon and was arrested, the release said.

According to Iowa online court records, Stewart was convicted of simple assault in 2003.

Stewart is facing charges of attempted murder and domestic assault with a weapon. He has been taken to the Polk County Jail, said Sgt. Brian Kroska of the Ankeny Police Department.

Multiple additional charges are under review, police said.
