Ankeny Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Death of Baby Daughter

Ryan Trowbridge had asked for a new trial after being convicted in October of killing his 4-month-old daughter. His request was denied and he was sentenced to life in prison.

An Ankeny man was sentenced Tuesday morning to life in prison for causing the death of his infant daughter, according to KCCI.com.

Ryan Trowbridge, 22, was convicted in October in the death of 4-month-old Rylee. He received a sentence of life in prison, KCCI reported.

A request for a new trial was denied.

Judge Scott Rosenberg found Trowbridge "assaulted Rylee Trowbridge by grabbing Rylee and shaking her body and or slamming her in a such a manner that a serious and critical head injury was inflicted upon her under circumstance manifesting in extreme indifference to human life."

Trowbridge opted for a bench trial, instead of a jury trial.

He told authorities he found his daughter in respiratory distress after he put her down for a nap.

"I know you love your daughter, that was never a question," the baby's grandmother said in a prepared statement read in court by a victim's advocate. "We just need to know the truth so that someday we may be able to heal."

Judge Rosenberg called the child's death a "senseless and heinous act" that deserved the life sentence, according to the TV station.
