Ankeny Police Blotter for Sept. 6: Two Disputes Over Money

A man said he dropped money on the floor at Hy-Vee, but cameras didn't show the incident as reported.

Aug. 29

A woman on Southwest Sharmin Drive called police to report an ongoing dispute with a man who has demanded money since hurting himself and tripping over the homeowner's sidewalk. The man left a note on the woman's door demanding $2,000 to make up for lost wages, pain and suffering. An officer told the man he needs to tak the matter to civil court and the homeowner was told to call police if he continues to contact her.

Aug. 30

A man called police to report that he dropped $150 of the floor while paying at the Western Union counter at Hy-Vee. The caller said a woman standing behind him may have picked up the money and walked away. Officers checked the store's surveillance camera footage, which did not show anyone picking money up off the floor.

A 9-year-old girl called police from the intersection of Northwest 17th Street and Northwest Beechwood Street to say that she was lost. She lives in an apartment building about two blocks from the intersection, but she and a friend were unsure of the route home. Police talked with a babysitter, who was out looking for the girls, and they were sent home.
