Ankeny Man Leads Police on High-Speed Chase Through Town
An Ankeny man is facing a host of charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through the city.
Wesley D. Campbell, 21, of 434 S.E. Sharon Drive, was arrested Dec. 26 after police say he attempted to flee Ankeny police in his vehicle after officers tried to initiate a traffic stop.

According to Capt. Joe Schaffer of the , police came into contact with Campbell near the intersection of West First Street and Southwest Linden Street at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 26. Upon running the truck’s license plate number, the officer learned Campbell’s license had been revoked because of an OWI conviction.
When the officer attempted to stop Campbell’s vehicle, Campbell fled onto Southwest Linden Street, police said, and then headed east on Southwest Ordnance Road, the police report said. Despite the officer activating his lights and siren, Campbell continued to accelerate across Southwest State Street into the Southwest Westlawn neighborhood, according to police.

At this point, Schaffer said, Campbell’s vehicle reached speeds in excess of 80 mph. The posted speed limit in these areas ranged from 25 to 35 mph.
The pursuing officer reduced speed and lost sight of Campbell, but additional officers were able to locate his vehicle near Southwest Third and Walnut streets. The pursuit continued to Southwest Ordnance Road to Ankeny Boulevard, as well as east onto Southeast Magazine Road, police said.
The driver then turned onto Southeast Sharon Street where he was apprehended.
Campbell is facing charges of interference with official acts, eluding police, driving with a revoked license, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to obey red traffic lights and reckless driving.

Kristina J. Smith, 21, Ankeny, is facing a charge of possession with intent to deliver (narcotics) following an incident at 214 N.W. State St.
Christopher J. Struse, 22, Ankeny, is facing a charge of operating while intoxicated (first offense) following a traffic stop near 317 N.E. Delaware Ave.

Michael R. Berkemann, 39, Des Moines, is facing a charge of driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop on southbound Interstate 35 near Ankeny.
Lisa A. Swinson, 31, Des Moines, is facing charges of driving with barred, failure to provide security against liability and failure to keep rear lamps in working order following an traffic stop in the 200 block of Northwest State Street.

Justin K. Eischeid, 19, Ankeny, is facing charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident at 301 N.E. 12th St. Place.
Jeremy Hindman, 19, Ankeny, is facing a charge of possession of marijuana following an incident at 3016 S.W. Arlan Lane.

Gloria A. Towey, 24, Des Moines, is facing charges of assault of a police office and interference with official acts following an incident at 2402 N.W. 12th St.

Sherry Hart, 40, Ankeny, is facing a charge of child endangerment following an incident at 323 S.E. Lowell Dr.
Police responded to 160 N.E. 41st St. at approximately 4:57 p.m. for a report of third-degree burglary from a vehicle.
