Ankeny Road Construction Update, Know Which Route to Take Heading Back to School Wednesday

Since the first day of school for the is tomorrow, the city of Ankeny wanted to provide a progress report on several road construction projects happening in the city.

- The patching contractor on East First and West First Street completed the remaining patch work last Saturday. There will be no lane restrictions on First Street when school starts tomorrow.

- Southwest 18th Street is open to traffic. This street connects to Southwest Irvinedale Drive near the new water tower and runs east to the new Prairie Trail Elementary School. 

- The Southwest Cherry Street extension project is open to traffic. This street runs from Southview Middle School / and runs north to SW Ordnance Road. Work continues on the adjacent recreation trail. 

- The paving of the widening of Southeast Oralabor Road for the Southeast Peachtree Drive intersection improvements was paved late last week.  Work is continuing on this project, which currently has the Autumn Ridge community driveway closed at Oralabor Road. All school buses will need to enter and exit the mobile home community from Southeast Shurfine Drive until further notice.

- Work is continuing on the Northeast 36th Street interchange and reconstruction projects. Northeast 36th Street east of Northeast Delaware Avenue will continue to be closed to traffic until early winter. 

- Work is also continuing on the Southwest Irvinedale Drive reconstruction project. The project remains closed to traffic, with a detour in place for local traffic only on the frontage road. School buses will be utilizing the frontage road. 

- The Southeast Fourth and Wanda sanitary sewer project intersection of Southeast Third and Trilein will open to traffic tomorrow.
