Ankeny's Joel Lanning Up for Des Moines Register 'Shining Star' Honor
Lanning is one of six area athletes up for your vote. Winners will be announced online at noon Thursday.

Ankeny Hawks quarterback Joel Lanning is up for a special honor and needs your votes to clinch this win.
Lanning is one of six area athletes up for this week's Iowa high school football Shining Star honor, a contest hosted by the Des Moines Register.
Lanning is a senior and last week produced over 350 yards of total offense and accounted for three touchdowns in Ankeny’s 49-17 win against Ames. According to the Register, Lanning completed 13-of-22 passes for 245 yards and one touchdown. The Iowa State recruit also rushed for 115 yards and one score.

Other athletes up for the honor include Des Moines East's Xavier James, LeMars Gehlen's Blake Wiltgen, Mount Ayr's Jacob Sobotka, Atlantic's Harrison Hoegh and West Fork of Sheffield's Spencer Halloran.
