Ankeny School Board Adopts Budget, Sets Property Tax Rate for Next Year
The new rate is less than last year, but will your property taxes actually go down?

The Ankeny school board adopted the 2013-14 budget last night, which includes a 24-cent decrease to the district's property tax levy.
The board voted unanimously to approve the budget and set the rate following a public hearing at its April 1 meeting. The new tax rate will be $20.34 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation.

However, at a board meeting in March, district Chief Financial Officer Jackie Black said homeowners will likely pay more in taxes because of the increase to the state rollback percentage.
What does this mean? It means a house valued at $250,000 will have an increase of $6.35 per month in taxes, while a commercial property owner with business property valued at $750,000 would see taxes decrease by $15.07 per month, according to the Des Moines Register.
