Ankeny School District Elementary 10 Bond Referendum: Everything You Need to Know to Vote Tuesday

Planning to head to the polls tomorrow to vote yes or no on the proposed bond referendum to finance the Ankeny School District's tenth elementary school? Here's everything you need to know.

1) What time do the polls open?

Polls in Ankeny will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The official language on the ballot will ask Ankeny School District residents to vote yes or no to allow the Ankeny Board of Education to "issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $15,900,000 to provide funds to build and furnish new elementary #10 school building."

In other words, if you vote yes, you will be voting in favor of this measure and supporting the district's plans to construct a $15.9 million elementary school at the proposed location of Northwest 36th and State streets. If you vote no, you will be voting against this measure.

The measure requires a 60 percent in-favor vote in order to pass.

3) Where can I go to vote?

Voters are assigned a specific polling location depending on the precinct in which they are registered to vote. If you’re not sure of your polling location, click here to find out. Here is a complete list of polling locations in Ankeny:

  • Ankeny-1: First United Methodist Church, 710 N.E. 36th St.
  • Ankeny-2: Resurrection Lutheran Church, 914 N.W. Ash Dr.
  • Ankeny-3 and 4: Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. First St.
  • Ankeny-5: Cornerstone Baptist Church, 701 E. First St.
  • Ankeny-6: Ankeny United Church of Christ, 602 S.E. Delaware Ave.
  • Ankeny-7: First Family Church, 317 S.E. Magazine Rd.
  • Ankeny-8 and 9: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 S.W. Des Moines St.

4) Is it too late to register to vote?

No. Potential voters can register at their precinct the day of the election.

5) What do I need to bring to register?

To register at the polls tomorrow, voters will need to provide either photo identification with their current address or one of the following documents: a government issued check or document, a residential lease, property tax statement, utility bill, bank statement or a paycheck.

6) Can I still vote absentee?

Absentee ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Feb. 4. You may hand deliver your ballot to the Polk County Election Office by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5

The receipt deadline even if your ballot is postmarked by Feb. 4 is Monday, February 11, 2013 by 12 p.m.
