Ankeny School District to Hold Second Community Forum on Elementary 10 Referendum

The forum will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, in the East Elementary School lunchroom. It starts at 7 p.m.

The Ankeny school district will hold the second of three public forums tomorrow night, designed to educate the public on the need for the district's tenth elementary school.

The forum will be held at the East Elementary School lunch room. It will begin at 7 p.m.

The school board approved a resolution last month to hold a special election on Feb. 5, 2013. The election will give district residents a chance to vote on a $15.9 million referendum to finance the district's tenth elementary.

The public meetings are being held to cover several topics, including:

  • The need for elementary 10 and the February bond referendum
  • Specifications and plans for the school
  • The impact on the tax rate and how the rate can actually decrease while the district is bonding for a school
  • The plan in the event of a failed bond referendum and the impact to students and families in the district

One more forum will be held on Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the same location.
