Ankeny School Officials Call Off September Referendum for 10th Elementary

The school board wants to re-evaluate district finances before bringing the referendum before voters, according to an article by The Des Moines Register.

Ankeny school officials have decided to push back a September bond referendum for the district's tenth elementary school.

Citing a need to re-evaluate district finances, an article written by Sara Sleyster of the Des Moines Register also said the referendum could be brought to voters in February 2013.

“We’re just stepping back and looking at all our options instead of rushing this,” Ankeny Superintendent Bruce Kimpston told the Register.

Back in April, that would have asked voters to support an $18.5 million referendum on Sept. 11 to finance construction of the district’s next elementary school.

At the same meeting, board member Dustin Graber, who chairs the school district facilities committee, presented from the committee about the possible referendum.

Discussion originally started at the board’s March 26 meeting.
