The Ankeny boys track team is gearing up to kick off their season, even though their first meet – scheduled for tonight – was canceled thanks to Mother Nature.

Ankeny returns seven state qualifiers from a team that failed to score any points at the state meet for the first time since 1992, reports the Des Moines Register. Seniors Brandon Boelts, Drew Deiter, Luke Gibbs, Stephen Goforth and Zach Matter are back along with junior Nick Paulson and sophomore Josh Davis.

The Hawkettes boast nine returning state qualifiers from a team that placed 15th in last year’s Class 4-A meet with 23 points.

After another successful season, the Ankeny girls bowling team will face a major rebuilding task next year, the Des Moines Register reports.

The Hawkettes will have to replace a trio of seniors — Brianna Payton, Jen Christianson and Kaylinn Willson — who led the squad to a 7-5 dual-meet record.

The Ankeny boys soccer team posted a 17-3 record last year. They reached the state tournament before losing to Ames, 2-1, according to the Des Moines Register.
