Iowa High School Football, Full List of Scores; Ankeny Stays Undefeated With Win Over Ames on the Road

The Little Cyclones stayed close in the first half, but the Hawks pulled away to keep their winning streak intact.

After a sluggish start in Ames Friday night, the top-ranked Ankeny Hawks pulled away in the second half to win 49-17.

The Hawks (6-0) compiled 571 yards offensively with senior quarterback Joel Lanning accounting for 360 in the win over Ames, according to the Des Moines Register. Lanning, who has committed to playing football at Iowa State next year, passed for 245 yards and ran for another 115. He also had a hand in four of Ankeny's scores, passing for two and running for two.

The Little Cyclones tallied 381 yards on offense led by Clifford Kwah-Mensah's 135 rushing yards.

Drew Carlson opened the scoring with a 3-yard run in the first quarter and Ames (3-3) kept the game close early on, trailing just 6-0 midway through the second quarter, the Register reported.

The Hawks scored twice more before the half to answer two Ames scores and led 21-10, the newspaper said. But Ankeny more than doubled its points in the second half, routing Ames.
