Ankeny SummerFest Countdown: Which Bands Will Be Rocking the Leisure Garden in 2013?

Ankeny SummerFest is held July 11-14, 2013. Concerts will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Is your favorite band coming back?

There are many activities during SummerFest to keep the entire family busy, but when it comes to cutting loose with the guys or your girlfriends, the nightly live music concerts are the place to be.

SummerFest will be held July 11-14 this year. Bands will perform in the Ankeny SummerFest Leisure Garden, located on the SummerFest grounds at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

THURSDAY

The Rumbles, 7:30-11 p.m.

A Midwest-based rock and roll dance cover band, The Rumbles will celebrate their 50th anniversary next year. This year will mark their final tour. In addition to “original Rumble” Steve Hough, the current lineup includes guitarist Gayle Adams, bassist Todd Henseler and keyboardist/guitarist Tim Vasquez.

FRIDAY

Opening Act: Abby Normal, 6:30 p.m.

If you are looking for a band to get the crowd moving — Abby Normal has a song selection that is aimed to delight. Timeless rock songs and current hits that strike a chord for a wide age group make this band a true crowd pleaser. 

Headliner: Fahrenheit, 8:45 p.m.

Fahrenheit, the band started by Des Moines native Joe Burriola in 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada has been burning up the Las Vegas strip for 13 yrs.   The band Fahrenheit is known for its monster musicians; Johnny Johnson guitar player for Earth Wind and Fire, Carlos Perez, and Raimey Shippen from the Ricky Martin band to name a few.

SATURDAY

Opening Act: Throwing Toast, 5 p.m.

Well-known cover band in Des Moines/Central Iowa area. Covers range from 60s, 70, 80s, 90s, 2000s. Some original material in the mix.

Headliner: Standing Hampton, 8 p.m.

Capturing the sound and magic of the glory days of classic rock, Standing Hampton performs the best musical nuggets of the 70s, 80s and beyond. The Des Moines based quintet features four part harmonies with all members sharing lead vocal chores.
